Niche business bank and asset manager Sasfin has appointed Harriet Heymans as its director following the resignation of Angela Pillay in January.

Heymans is a qualified chartered accountant with more than 20 years' experience in the banking and financial services industry, the company said on the stock exchange news service (Sens) on Monday.

She has served as the CFO of Standard Chartered Bank in SA, Imperial Financial Services and Ubank Limited in the past. She had stints at Absa and KPMG and studied accounting at the University of Johannesburg, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Pillay has been Sasfin’s financial director since March 2018 and Sasfin previously said she would depart on April 8.

Pillay said in January her reason for leaving the financial services group was to “shift gears and focus on new adventures”, without going into further detail.

“I leave on good terms and with a heavy heart. We have all felt the intensity of working through a pandemic, especially when that period becomes a time of real growth,” she said at the time.
