Exxaro Resources has announced changes to its structure, making two new appointments that incorporate its growing diversified portfolio.
The resources group announced on Wednesday that Caroline Shirindza has been appointed executive head coal from November 1. In addition, Neo Monareng becomes executive head of sustainability from that same date.
The group said the changes to its executive committee were to reposition Exxaro as an organisation that was fit for the future and a structure that incorporated its growing diversified portfolio. They would also stabilise the business, enhance agility and collaboration and enable more responsive decision making as it accelerated the execution of Exxaro’s sustainable growth and impact strategy.
“These changes ensure that Exxaro’s leadership team is aligned to exploit opportunities across coal, energy and transitional metals, while driving capital discipline and operational efficiency,” it said.
The executive committee reporting directly to CEO Ben Magara is as follows:
• Riaan Koppeschaar — finance director
• Michelle Nana — group company secretary
• Joseph Rock — executive head people and performance
• Caroline Shirindza — executive head coal (effective November 1)
• Johan Meyer — executive head metals
• Leon Groenewald — executive head energy
• Mervin Govender — executive head technical services.
• Richard Lilleike — executive head strategy and business development
• Mongezi Veti — executive head sustainability (Retiring July 31 2026)
• Neo Monareng — executive head sustainability (designate, effective November 1)
“These leadership appointments and structural changes strengthen Exxaro’s functional model to deliver sustainable growth and long-term value to our shareholders and all our stakeholders,” said Magara.
