Boots — Netflix
Adapted from the 2016 memoir The Pink Marine by former US Marine Greg Cope White, creator Andy Parker’s series stars Miles Heizer, Vera Farmiga and Liam Oh.
It follows the dramatic adventures of Heizer’s Cameron Cope, a closeted gay teen, bullied mercilessly at school and driven crazy by his mother (Farmiga), who has moved their family 10 times in the past 12 years. In New Orleans in 1990, Cameron, desperate for a new chapter in his life, decides to join the Marines and convinces his only friend Ray (Ho) to join him.
The experience, which offers more than the friends had bargained or prepared for, comes with the added danger of homosexuality being illegal in the US armed forces at the time.
