The Perfect Neighbor — Netflix
Made almost entirely using police body-cam footage, director Geeta Gandbhir’s documentary — much talked about and acclaimed on its screening at Sundance this year — follows the escalation of a neighbourhood disagreement in Florida to its fatal conclusion. The big issues are around racism and the state’s “stand your ground” laws, but the ones that hit the hardest are on the micro-level, where the way disputes are resolved leaves children without their mothers and friends grieving.
Annie Hall — Prime Video
With the death of Diane Keaton earlier this week, there’s no better reason to revisit perhaps her most iconic role. Playing a character inspired by her and written for her by her then-boyfriend, Woody Allen, Keaton made her mark as a comic performer with a singular fashion sense as Allen’s charming, complicated and ever-changing love interest.
To Cook a Bear — Disney Plus
It’s off to the cold, bleak fields of 19th-century northern Sweden in this dark period murder mystery series. When the body of a young woman is found in a bog, the local villagers determine the culprit must be a killer bear and set about trying to find and kill the animal before it does any further damage, only to realise that the threat may be a man rather than a beast.
