The first Lamborghini Urus with plug-in-hybrid technology has been presented at the Kesselhaus Kolbermoor, a former power station of an old German cotton mill in Munich, Germany. Chairperson and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini Stephan Winkelmann presided over the reveal.

In the new Urus SE the standard fitment 4.0l biturbo V8 engine is married to an electric drivetrain that outputs 141kW and 483Nm and powered by a 25.9kWh lithium-ion battery. This unit also enables the burly Urus to travel 60km on electric power alone.

Lamborghini says outputs and performance potential remain provisional at this stage, but mentions a total system power output as 588kW and potentially torque that is north of 1,000Nm. These figures already thrust the new Urus SE ahead of alternative SUV hoodlums such as the Aston Martin DBX 707 (527kW/900Nm); BMW XM Red Label (550kW/1,000Nm) and the Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT (485kW/850Nm.)

Lamborghini says the main focus was on the calibration strategy between the combustion engine and electric motor, for an optimum power curve in every driving mode and on every surface. Integrated systems such as a new electric torque vectoring system and electronic differential ensure ideal distribution of torque and power between the two axles at any speed.

The Urus SE also features revised aerodynamics thanks to a new front end design, including a new bonnet with a power dome similar to the Revuelto. Other new elements include wide matrix LED headlights and a new light signature while at the rear a new diffuser with integrated number plate emphasises width. It also rides on new design 23-inch alloy wheels.

“Our aim was to make a beautiful vehicle even more beautiful, focusing on increased performance, elegance and a feeling of greater luxury in the interior. The new shape follows the ‘essential and iconic’ design philosophy and blends harmoniously into a perfect overall appearance,” explains Mitja Borkert, director of design at Automobili Lamborghini.

“Thanks to electrification, the Urus SE achieves an impressive level of performance and takes Lamborghini further towards the sustainability goals set out in Direzione Cor Tauri for the future of our company,” concluded Winkelmann.

The new Urus SE is not yet offered for sale; however, Lamborghini SA can confirm plans to introduce it to this market. More details on specs and pricing will be shared closer to debut launch.
