After the 2023 unveiling of the new AC Cobra GT Roadster, the British company has released the first images of the AC Cobra GT Coupe that's based on an enhanced version of the existing AC Cobra GT Roadster platform.

The new coupe has the same dimensions as the existing roadster, sporting a 2,570mm wheelbase, 4,225mm length and 1,980mm width. It harks back to the beautiful one-off AC A98 coupe created for Le Mans racing in 1964 with the distinctive “Kammtail” rear design.

The “Kammtail” or “Kammback” was a styling feature of sixties racers wherein the shape of the car slopes downwards, ending at an abrupt, vertical angle. It's said to reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency while boosting performance.

AC Cars adds motorsport-derived enhancements to the modern tin-top version, including an enhanced aluminium chassis and optimised carbon-fibre body.

The first cars to reach clients in 2025 will be the extreme Clubsport Edition that's honed for track use. Limited to just 99 examples, the Clubsport Editions will be powered by a more potent V8 engine producing 596kW, with a target weight under 1,450kg.

The Clubsport Edition will be followed by the series production coupe, available with either a normally aspirated, 335kW producing V8 or the 536kW supercharged option.

The company isn't divulging the coupe range's performance potential. In the past it has indicated the entry Cobra GT roadster cousins sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 250km/h. The supercharged roadster is good for 3.4 seconds from standstill-to-100km/h with a higher 278km/h top end.

“The reveal of the AC Cobra GT Coupe is a proud moment for us, and the story of a road-going AC Cobra coupe is one years in the making. To have been able to combine the timeless AC Cobra design into a car using the latest design and construction techniques breaks new ground for AC Cars,” said David Conza, CEO of AC Cars.

The new AC Cobra GT Coupe starts at £325,000 (R7.5m), and reservations for both the AC Cobra GT Coupe and Clubsport Edition are open now.
