SA Auto Week 2024 will celebrate a century of vehicle manufacturing in SA, with the local assembly of motor vehicles and light trucks having started in 1924.
To be held in Cape Town in October as a networking and thought leadership conference for the automotive industry, SA Auto Week 2024 is part of the country’s transport month activities.
In its third instalment, the conference, primarily a Business-2-Business (B2B) event for automotive industry leaders, will be held from October 15-18 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
The platform provides delegates with exclusive access to the latest industry insights, trends, innovation, and policy developments shaping the automotive industry in SA and across the African continent, says Mikel Mabasa, CEO of motor industry umbrella body Naamsa, which organises the event.
“Participants will gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of market dynamics, challenges and opportunities, allowing them to stay ahead in an ever growing and evolving auto sector”.
“This premium event also presents a prime opportunity for businesses seeking capital to fund their projects. Whether looking for venture capital, partnerships, or project financing, participants can connect with investors, venture capitalists, private equity firms, strategic corporate investors, and fund managers who are actively looking for bankable and scalable opportunities within the automotive industry,” Mabasa said.
He described the conference as a unique platform where the majority of industry CEOs and other senior business leaders from OEM brands would be congregated and engaging in B2B meetings and networking sessions.
The automotive industry contributes 5.3% to SA’s GDP, and in 2023 the export of vehicles and automotive components reached a record amount of R270.8bn, equating to 14.7% of the country’s total exports, said Naamsa.
The industry accounts for 21.9% of SA’s manufacturing output and employs about 110,000 people in component manufacturing and vehicle assembly. Combined with the industry’s strong multiplier effect, the industry is responsible for about 457,000 jobs.
