Chinese commercial brand Foton has launched the all-new Foton Truck Mate — a light commercial truck that’s available in dropside body and van box designs.
Targeted industries include construction, retail, agriculture, logistics and mobile services. The drop side deck measures 360mm in height, 1,560mm width and 2,850mm length, able to accommodate a maximum payload of 1.2 tonnes. The weather-protected van box is rated with a 1.1 tonne loading capacity.
Both are powered by an four-cylinder petrol engine producing 82kW and 142Nm and equipped with five-speed manual transmissions. Foton says the unladen fuel consumption is 7.9l/100km rising to 9.5l/100km laden. Specification includes air conditioning, radio, auto-adjusting headlights and an on-board fire extinguisher. Safety is looked after by seat belts and ABS and EBD equipped brakes,

Foton sells a wide range of passenger and commercial products, including mini-busses, larger Miler truck series and a full electric range of commercials such as the eAumark, eTruck Mate and e-View panel van. It also imports the Tunland G7 single and double cab bakkie range, with plans to assemble them locally at the BAIC factory in Gqeberha from 2026.
The new Truck Mate is sold standard with a five-year/200,000km warranty and five-year roadside assistance.
