The Chery empire keeps growing, with iCAUR to become the Chinese group’s latest brand when it launches locally in the middle of 2026 with a range of electric and range-extended vehicles that can achieve more than 1,000km between fill-ups.

With their high specification levels and keen prices, the group’s Chery, Omoda and Jaecoo marques have become popular sellers in SA, and the aim is to grow iCAUR into the country’s top new-energy vehicle (NEV) brand, said Tony Liu, CEO of Chery Group SA.

Unveiling iCAUR’s new models at the media day of the Kyalami Festival of Motoring this week, Liu said the brand was aimed at young-at-heart customers with cool, unique and stylish vehicles and a “Born To Play” catchphrase.

Hans Greyling, GM of iCAUR SA, told Motor News the brand would start retail operations in April or May 2026, with three models retailed through 15 to 18 dealers that would have a corporate identity to match the fresh and funky image of the cars.

The vehicles will be highly customisable, said Shannon Gahagan, iCAUR SA’s brand and marketing manager. “We are introducing a line-up that gives people the freedom to mix, match and make life their own. Our vehicles are designed with personality and individuality at their core.”

Three models will be launched next year: the city-focused 03T and the V23, which are showcased at the Kyalami festival, and the range-topping V27.

The electric 03T pairs sleek urban crossover style with adventurous wide-body SUV lines and aluminium construction. At 4,406mm it is a similar size to the Toyota Corolla Cross.

At 4,220mm the boxy V23 is a VW T-Cross-sized SUV that takes inspiration from retro designs such as the Mercedes G-Class and Land Rover Defender. With a generous 225mm ground clearance, it has an adaptable interior with robust mechanical controls, and up to 24 interchangeable pieces to reflect the driver’s personal style. Both the V23 and the 03T deliver up to 500km of all-electric range with all-wheel drive capability.

iCAUR introduces Chery International’s “Golden Range Extender” REEV technology to give peace of mind on longer journeys. It uses a petrol engine as a generator to power the electric battery, providing a claimed range of over 1,000km.

Pricing and further details will be announced closer to the launch next year.
