Vehicle armouring company SVI Engineering has introduced a Ford-backed B6 discreet armouring package for the Ranger Raptor, a model previously approved only for B4 (handgun) protection.
The concealed B6 package provides protection against assault rifles such as the AK47, R1 and R5. Materials used include 38mm armoured glass and high-grade armoured steel plates. The Raptor’s entire passenger cell boasts coverage, while critical under-bonnet components (such as the battery and ABS unit) are also protected, says Nicol Louw SVI’s business development director.
“The added mass of the B6 armouring components is no match for this flagship Ranger derivative’s twin-turbo 3.0l V6 petrol engine, which churns out a whopping 292kW and 583Nm,” says Louw.
The B6-converted Raptor’s warranty and maintenance plan remain intact, and the package can be financed via Ford Credit through any Ford dealership.
The B6 package is priced from R891,735 (excluding VAT), on top of the price of the base vehicle. SVI offers a more affordable B4 discreet package which protects against handguns from R588,730, and the SVI Lite B2 partial armouring for R64,950.
The project build time for the B4 and B6 packages is about three months.
