JMC SA plans to launch its new Vigus single cab bakkie at a competitive target price of R300,000 when it arrives in two months’ time.
Salvador Caetano Auto SA is gearing up to officially relaunch Chinese brand Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) locally in November, and aims to make a bold value-for-money entrance in the one-tonne workhorse category.
“With over 3,000 single cab bakkies sold monthly across SA in the sub-R350,000 price bracket, the demand for tough, reliable and affordable pickups remains a cornerstone of the local automotive market,” said Leslie Ramsoomar, MD of Salvador Caetano SA.
“In response, JMC is gearing up to offer its Vigus single cab at a highly competitive target price of R300,000 strategically positioned to disrupt the segment with unmatched value.”
The Vigus will be positioned against rival workhorse ranges such as the GWM Steed 5 single cab S priced at R307,950, and the Foton Tunland G7 which starts at R329,900.
The Vigus bakkie is powered by a 2.4l turbo diesel engine with outputs of 103kW and 310Nm, and is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Further technical details will be disclosed at the November introduction.
Following the Vigus launch, the JMC range will later be expanded with Vigus double cab arriving in early 2026, the Grand Avenue leisure bakkie and the Carrying Plus, a range of robust commercial trucks tailored for logistics, agriculture and industrial sectors.
Ramsoomar said the JMC range would be backed by a full range of aftersales support, locally available parts and a growing network of service points.
“The brand is ready to support the needs of entrepreneurs, fleet owners and professionals who rely on their vehicles daily,” he said.
Salvador Caetano Auto entered SA last year as the importer for the GAC range of passenger cars imported from China. Earlier this year it announced it had taken over as official SA distributor of JMC, a brand that had been in SA since 2007 with a range of light commercial vehicles and the Landwind SUV, but had quit the country.
