Eskom still expects to suspend stage 2 load-shedding on Good Friday from 5am, but warns it might resume next week.
One generating unit tripped at the Kusile power station (Mpumalanga) and one at the Kendal power station (Mpumalanga) in the past 24 hours, Eskom said in a statement on Thursday.
The unit at Kusile came back online on Thursday morning along with one at the Camden (Mpumalanga) power station.
Eskom said the power grid remains fragile, but the lights will remain on as it expects lower demand over the Easter weekend. Load-shedding might return next week as demand increases again.
The heavy rains and floods in KwaZulu-Natal, which have claimed the lives of at least 259 people, have led to capacity constraints. Eskom will release some water from the Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme, along the border of KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State, into rivers to help with capacity constraints.
Eskom plans to work on maintaining 6,042MW of supply while 14,471MW is not available because of unplanned breakdowns.
