News that Duduzane Zuma, the son of former president Jacob Zuma, will be contesting the upcoming elections through a new political party is to be welcomed.
After much speculation, Duduzane has finally shed some light on his new political platform, All Game Changers. From the little he has shared the new party will embrace diversity as enshrined in our constitution.
The party’s stance on LGBTQI+ sets it apart from his father’s known views on the issue of sexual orientation. It is also refreshing to learn that, unlike the backward-looking approach of his father, the young Zuma is looking ahead at finding solutions to SA’s pressing problems. Though his father’s new political home, the MK party, is hogging the headlines, it has yet to spell out its vision for SA.
Also to be applauded is Duduzane’s approach of seeking to tackle challenges through the established electoral system. Lately, his father has sought to cast aspersions at the integrity of our elections, suggesting, without offering proof, that the elections could be rigged. This rogue behaviour deserves to be roundly condemned, also by Duduzane.
Zuma Jnr needs to be welcomed into the political arena. One of the disappointments of our political system in the past three decades of all-race democracy has been single-party dominance. The more the merrier.
