LETTER: NHI not up to task

How your writer Luyolo Mkentane thinks National Health Insurance (NHI) would help in his situation is beyond me (“Unseemly tactics at accident scene boost case for NHI”, January 7).

There will certainly not be more beds, or more ambulances, or better EMS people on standby. There will still be peak congestion and accident days, when resources will be stretched thin. And no doubt there will still be family members trying to call the shots and tell first responders what to do.

This was a horrible experience for those involved, but it does not make the political point the writer would like it to.
