Jake Willis, the CEO of youth employment agency Lulaway, believes talent will always be the focus of recruitment, but companies will be paying more attention to technology. He has the following to say about upcoming trends:
• Social recruitment (using social media to attract people) has become the main focus of most recruiters. This makes sense when considering that people spend an average of two hours online a day;
• Social media is also being used to target passive candidates - people who are not actively looking for work but could be persuaded if the right position came up;
• Online platforms have taken over from traditional methods of recruitment. They provide companies with access to "a large pool of appropriate candidates cost-effectively", making it "attractive to busy human resources departments";
• This larger net creates its own problems. "The ease of applying for a job can result in hundreds of CVs being submitted per job,"; and
• Online platforms allow companies to create a talent pool for the future. "Many company websites invite job seekers to register their CVs with them, regardless of whether they currently have vacancies.
