Employers and employees are exhausted after 18 months of the pandemic, lockdown, remote work and the stress that comes from all of that - and that can affect a business's performance.

"One of the elements that [companies can focus] on is their employees. By helping your people to perform at their peak, your business can drive better customer service, higher productivity, and more innovation," says Viresh Harduth, vice-president for small business at Sage Africa and Middle East. He advises:

• Put the physical and mental wellbeing of employees at the top of the agenda. Covid-19 is a perfect storm of stressors, from social isolation and job insecurity to grief;

• Look at ways to help employees address their finances. Financial wellness is closely linked to physical and mental wellbeing, and it is an area where many people have taken harsh blows; and

• Consider offering employees more flexible work options by incorporating remote working. One of the lessons to take from the pandemic is that it's entirely possible to offer a more flexible working model for some members of your team without compromising performance and productivity.
