What is a crypto influencer?
I have a large international following that follows my journey. The crypto journey is brand new and can be daunting; my goal is to show my following what I am doing with my money, my approach, and take them through my successes and losses.
I show what I’m doing, what trades I am taking, where I am being cautious and where it’s worth the risk.
Tell me about how you got into crypto.
I started out as a carpenter and handyman and had a little business. One day, I got invited to a crypto event. I liked the vision and put a bit of money into it. That money started to grow, so I started to invest a bit more time into it until I managed to build an account of about $10,000 (R190,000 this week).
I decided to go all in, sold my car and closed the carpentry business. And then one day the exchange just froze. The guys who ran it had run off with the money. I ended up losing everything.
However, I had just started to learn how to trade crypto, and I decided that as crypto never sleeps, I would not sleep until I had mastered trading and earned my fortune back.
So for 18 hours every day for many months, I traded continuously. Some nights I would literally lose 99% of my money, but after a few months, I managed to make a basic salary and got back on my feet.
I was introduced to Ran Neuner, the founder of [YouTube channel] Crypto Banter, a major player in the crypto space. He told me he would make me a superstar, and after demonstrating a few of my trades and coin suggestions, he invited me to come on his show.
What advice do you have for people wanting to trade crypto currencies?
Start small and remember that timing is key. People often buy at the wrong time, when the market is running and people are making money.
The time to buy is at the lowest point in the market, when it seems as though there are no prospects to make money. At this low point, when it is really uncomfortable, the market will stabilise and will turn, but you have to be able to ride out this journey without folding.
You are also part of a YouTube reality series called The Chosen Ones. Tell me about this project.
It is an extremely personal project. I made a success out this career, but in the process I had to move to Cape Town, a city I had never lived in, and had to effectively start a new life without friends or family.
I had found financial success, yet I felt alone. I missed and needed my inner circle of friends and family from Boksburg, where I grew up. My goal was to gather my best friends and family members, travel the country and create opportunities.
We conceptualised a reality series called The Chosen Ones, which is produced and shot in South Africa and showcases our group going on different themed adventures or performing stunts and dares.
What is the best career advice you have ever received?
Take the pennies out of your pocket, put them into your mind, and your mind will fill your pocket with pennies for the rest of your life.
The gist of this is: invest in yourself first, even if you don’t have a lot of money, spend whatever you can on yourself in order to grow — read, go to conventions, study further and sign up for that course.
