Taking care of your emotional, physical and financial wellbeing may be the best investment you can make in your career.

“One of the ways in which we have brought the philosophy [of self-love] into our organisation is through the Wellness Wheel — a tool that represents the different dimensions of what it means to be ‘well’ and live the most fulfilled life possible,” says Sandi Richardson, human resources executive at RCS. She advises:

  • Become financially literate, learn how to formulate and live within a budget, and develop your skills around managing debt;
  • Work on your social skills, including developing and maintaining healthy relationships. Find meaningful ways to reach out to your community and give back; and
  • Take care of your physical and emotional needs both at work and at home, and try to strike a workable balance between the two. Get enough sleep, eat nutritious food and get regular exercise. Nurture your intellect by attending training courses and take care of your spirit in ways that are meaningful to you, such as meditation, long walks or time in nature.
