The deadline-focused nature of work can be exhausting, so rather than finding yourself too tired to get anything done, put systems in place to help you cope better.
“The first step to creating a healthy corporate balance is understanding the difference between operational tasks and strategic objectives in your organisation. Operational tasks are critical daily activities, whereas strategic objectives are the overall mission of the organisation that enables it to reach desired objectives,” says Nomvula Mnguni, talent acquisition manager at Bizmod Consulting.
She advises:
- Make sure you begin each day with a list of tasks in order of priority; add items not done the day before;
- Have the right processes and systems in place to ensure your team works well together and that support is available;
- Decide whether a task forms part of the company’s strategic objectives or is an operational task. Operational tasks help you achieve strategic objectives, and your key performance indicators will connect the two through daily, weekly and monthly targets; and
- There are various apps that can help you keep track of your progress and allow you to measure your performance.
