If you are longing for a more rewarding job, instead of looking for a new one you could just work on making the one you already have more fulfilling.
“Every job is made up of a set of tasks that can be reconfigured to the employee’s strengths and preferences to make work more interesting and meaningful. Many employees unconsciously craft their jobs already, while others believe their jobs are static, don’t have the time to reflect, or fear office politics,” says Michael Gullan, CEO of e-learning consultancy G&G Advocacy.
He advises:
- Crafting the job you want will make work feel less of a daily slog;
- You can alter the boundaries of your job by taking on more or fewer tasks and changing the way you do them;
- The relationships you have with your colleagues, managers, customers and suppliers are not fixed — you can make small but far-reaching changes to the way you interact; and
- View your job in a fresh light — you can change your attitude towards the work you do.
