Tell me about Avochoc.
Avochoc is more than just a technology company. We’re a trusted partner helping businesses harness the power of innovation to overcome challenges and create meaningful impact. At our core, Avochoc is about connecting people, ideas, and technology to unlock new possibilities.
In today’s tech- and AI-driven world, we specialise in crafting tailored digital solutions that solve problems and drive businesses forward.
What are your main tasks as CEO?
To provide clarity and direction with our team and clients’ best interests at heart.
I set the vision for where we’re headed, explore growth opportunities and ensure we stick to the values that define us. I also help to identify trends, such as the growing influence of AI, and position Avochoc as a leader in integrating these innovations into solutions. People are tired of hearing buzzwords without results, so from a client perspective, my job is to make sure that we put our money where our mouths are and deliver beyond expectations every time.
A big part of my job is supporting the team, making sure that they are confident and equipped to take on challenges. When the team thrives, everything else falls into place.
What did you want to be when you were a child?
I wanted to be a pilot. The idea of flying, with all its freedom and adventure, captured my imagination. Later, I dreamt of becoming a rock star, which led me to study music and spend 10 years immersed in a music career at a big church in Pretoria. It was during that time that I discovered a love for leadership.
Though I didn’t initially plan for a career in technology, I’ve always been drawn to solving problems and working with people, so it felt like a natural progression. Over time, I’ve come to deeply appreciate how technology can open doors to new opportunities, spark innovation and bring ideas to life.
What advice do you have for the class of 2024 about their future careers?
Be brave and follow what excites you. Go through challenges, not around them; they’ll teach you resilience and show you what you’re made of. Stay curious, and never stop learning, especially in a world where AI is transforming how we live and work. Focus on building meaningful relationships, and don’t lose sight of who you are.
What do you look for when recruiting?
We look for people who share our values and bring the right mindset. Technical skills are important, but what stands out is someone insatiably curious, adaptable and open to growth.
