It is only March but the December holidays are a distant memory and you are exhausted.
“As companies demand higher output, we see employees’ wellbeing plummeting. Often, in hybrid work settings, employees might appear highly productive, but this often masks underlying exhaustion, disengagement, and burnout.
Team members frequently report high stress and a lack of recovery time due to ‘always-on’ expectations of the work-from-home reality,” says executive coach Anja van Beek.
She advises:
- categorise tasks according to their urgency and/or importance, then focus on high-impact activities;
- set clear work-life boundaries, especially if you work from home or have a hybrid schedule;
- to be able to work hard, you need to spend time recovering, and this time needs to be scheduled and non-negotiable;
- emotional stress can sap your energy very quickly, so find ways to manage your stress levels, such as mindfulness;
- eat well and keep hydrated so you are not running on empty; and
- when a project is complete, take time to celebrate your accomplishments and don't get fixated on what went wrong.
