What are the most common issues you deal with?
- Chairing disciplinary hearings and dismissals: We ensure that employers follow the correct procedures when dismissing employees, whether for misconduct, incapacity or operational requirements. This includes advising on fair disciplinary processes, performance management, and retrenchment procedures.
- Discrimination and harassment: We assist employers to develop and implement policies to prevent and address discrimination and harassment in the workplace.
- Compliance with labour legislation: We advise employers on their rights and obligations under various labour laws.
- Workplace policies and procedures: We assist with the reviewing and drafting of workplace policies, procedures and contracts to ensure they are legally compliant and aligned with best practices.
- Dispute resolution: We assist employers with disputes such as unfair dismissals and unfair labour practice that are referred to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), a bargaining council or the labour court.
- Restructuring and retrenchments: We advise employers on the legal requirements and best practices.

What did you want to be when you were a child?
As a child I had aspirations of becoming a pilot or a renowned legal practitioner, probably because I had a desire for adventure and travel and both careers would allow me to see the world, travel and enjoy everything out there. Both professions are often seen as prestigious and command some form of respect in society and allow you to play significant roles in shaping the laws, rules, practices and policies that affect peoples lives.
