Companies can no longer ignore sustainability as it is now an imperative rather than a “nice to have”.

“The great thing about going green is that it’s not just a way to do your part in saving the planet, but it can also play a key role in building a better business. Eco-friendly practices can strengthen team culture, enhance your brand reputation, and attract purpose-driven talent,” says Nikki Burgoyne, operations manager at Strider Digital.

She advises:

Make recycling easy and accessible

  • Becoming a more sustainable workplace can be done via incremental changes rather than a sweeping transformation;
  • Start with a company recycling programme using clearly labelled and accessible bins in kitchens, pause areas and bathrooms;
  • Consider how your company's waste is disposed of and find ways to reduce your contribution to landfills;
  • Try to reduce the amount of paper your company uses by encouraging the use of tools like Google Workspace and Microsoft 365, and sharing digitally rather than printing documents; and
  • A hybrid working model can help to reduce your company's carbon footprint as commuter times will be reduced.
