I oversee strategies and operations related to the sale of parts, services and support for our products post-sale. My responsibilities include managing customer relationships, optimising inventory and implementing programmes to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.
How did you end up doing the work you do?
I grew up in a small village in a mining region where the local economy relied heavily on the industry. My interest in engineering was sparked during my time at a technical high school which provided me with a solid technical foundation. After completing my studies, I entered the mining sector and have spent the past 24 years gaining experience in various aspects of mining operations.
During this time, Cummins became a key supplier of engines and power solutions, igniting my interest in its technology. My experience as a Cummins client has given me valuable insights into the specific needs and challenges faced by customers in the mining industry.
What do you think makes you good at your job?
With 24 years of experience in the mining industry, I have a comprehensive understanding of the operational challenges and technical requirements unique to this sector. This enables me to develop strategies and provide valuable insights and solutions tailored to my clients' needs.
What did you want to be when you were a child?
I grew up in a community filled with teachers, nurses and miners, which greatly influenced my early aspirations. For a significant part of my life, I dreamt of becoming a medical doctor. This ambition stemmed largely from my limited exposure to other career options; the professions I saw around me shaped my understanding of what was possible.
However, everything changed when I had the opportunity to attend a technical boarding school. This experience opened my eyes to a world of possibilities beyond the traditional paths I had known.
What do you look for when recruiting for your team?
I look for growth mindset; I value individuals who are eager to learn and grow within their roles. A growth mindset fosters continuous improvement and innovation, benefiting both the individual and the team.
Cultural fit also plays a significant role. I look for individuals who align with the team’s values and culture. A good cultural fit fosters collaboration, communication and a positive work environment.
I value candidates who demonstrate strong analytical and critical thinking skills. The ability to approach challenges creatively and effectively is essential for success in our dynamic work environment.
