Purpose ensures that our lives have meaning and direction and helps us to face obstacles and develop resilience.
“Understanding your own unique purpose enables you to navigate challenges with resilience, find joy in achievements and feel a deep sense of connection to your goals,” says Annette Breetzke, human capital executive at Momentum Group.
“These not only contribute towards personal wellbeing but also help to inform a thriving and productive work culture... How can we, as employers in the collective sense, inspire our people to bring an attitude of purposeful living proactively into the workplace?”
She advises:
- Make sure employees know how their individual tasks contribute to the organisation’s overall purpose, so they know their work makes a difference;
- Give employees autonomy in as many areas as is possible — empowered workers are not engaged and more feel more responsible for their work;
- Provide a clear path for growth within the organisation by offering training and other opportunities, so employees can plot their career trajectory; and
- Work on creating a culture in which employees feel heard and that encourages purpose-driven work.
