Pushing local artists to become a large financial force in the economy is hip-hop artist and businessperson Slikour’s aim with his entry into fintech.
Our host, Mudiwa Gavaza, is joined by Slikour — real name Siyabonga Metane — in this edition of the Business Day Spotlight.
Slikour recently launched a fintech platform, aimed at driving financial growth within SA’s creative industry.
Through a project called The Unites States of Creatives, which he had been working on for half a decade, the former Skwatta Kamp member has two fintech platforms: SOLDistro and SOL Wallet.

SOLDistro is an online music distribution platform, enabling artists to release their songs on streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify. SOL Wallet is a digital wallet allowing for the buying and selling of goods and services such as tickets for live performances.
In essence, Slikour is looking to create a fund, pooling together the earnings of artists from streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify that can then be used for investments in large projects like infrastructure.
He also details ways in which local artists can be a bigger financial force in the economy through this pooling of resources.
Topics of discussion include Slikour’s entry into the fintech market; some of the financial burden carried by local creatives; and how artists can find financial freedom through creative pursuits.
Business Day Spotlight is a TimesLIVE Production.
