No clarity on the deadlock between government and Eskom on the independent power producer’s programme for renewable energy was given on Thursday by Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe.

Questioned in the light of Eskom’s refusal to sign off the bid window 4.5, Radebe insisted the IPP programme was strongly government policy. Eskom was a government entity that reported to Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown.

Radebe said Energy Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson would submit the long-awaited integrated resource plan and integrated energy plan at the next cabinet meeting in two weeks. These plans will outline SA’s energy needs and energy mix for the next 30 years.
