Bret Easton Ellis’ 2023 coming of age/horror novel starring a fictional version of Brett East Ellis, finishing his last year of high school in 1981 Los Angeles, gets the full Ryan Murphy treatment. Starring Igby Rigney as Brett and Homer Gere as Robert Mallory, the impossibly cool new student at his school. Robert’s presence seems to coincide with the work of a new serial killer, The Trawler, who is terrifying the city. Co-starring Evan Rachel Wood and Wes Bentley, Murphy fans are hoping the show will redeem him after the criticism his legal soap opera All’s Fair received last year.
Ted Lasso — Apple TV +
Everyone’s favourite soccer coach returns for a new season of gentle laughs and homespun wisdom as Ted is coaxed out of his American retirement to come back to London by Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and Keeley (Juno Temple) to help them set up AFC Richmond’s women’s team. As Ted learns about his new team and their challenges, he has plenty of advice, charm and optimism to dole out to keep everyone focused on proving to the many sceptics in the media and among the club’s fans that the women of AFC Richmond are here to stay.

The epic story of the Buendia family and the town of Macondo continues in the second and final part of Netflix’s sweeping adaptation of the seminal novel by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. As the dirty and violent world of Latin American politics comes to Macondo, the Buendias are divided as a new generation grows up and finds its own way to survive.

Before winning the Bafta award for outstanding debut by a British director for his impressive first feature, My Father’s Shadow, director Akinola Davies Jnr made this emotive short drama, in which eight-year-old Juwon is kicked out of Sunday school at a megachurch in Lagos and finds herself glimpsing the underbelly of the city. It is co-written with his brother Wale Davies and demonstrates the pair’s talent for telling their stories through the eyes of children.
The Last House — Netflix
Greta Lee and Wagner Moura star in director Louis Leterrier’s haunted house horror. A family of four finds themselves trapped in their house and must work together against the increasingly threatening force that is keeping them trapped. As tensions rise, the family must race against the clock and overcome their differences if they are to have any chance of escaping intact.
