Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan is now to be charged with fraud. Zuma still faces 783 corruption charges that a high court ordered the NPA to reinstate, but they did nothing.
Hundreds, if not thousands, of people are saying these NPA charges against Gordhan are politically motivated and are just intimidation. High profile people such as Jay Naidoo, Sipho Pityana, Moletsi Mbeki, Trevor Manuel, Jackson Mthembu, retired judges, constitutional experts, analysts and political commentators have joined the outrage on social media and elsewhere. They should lead a concerted #ZumaResignNow campaign.
Zuma is a wily beast, slouching ungainly like a hyena along the dark edges of government, using his intelligence training, a deep, ugly cunning, and “captured individuals” to power his patronage networks. Smoke and mirrors, false flags and undercover ops help achieve his nefarious aims. Why is it he is always out of the country when major “actions” occur?
The clearest recent example is the early morning presser called today by Zuma’s NPA lapdog Shaun Abrahams. His bombshell was that Gordhan would be charged. The Rand plunged and social media went insane, while Tina Joemat-Pettersson quietly announced that Eskom would handle the nuclear build procurement. Oh! The public distracted while Zuma quietly ensures his Russian pension kickback. A trillion Rand at stake. A card trick!
Consider that the Auditor General reported that billions went missing during the illegal sale of SA’s strategic fuel reserves, yet no investigation is even being considered. Zuma outmanoeuvres Thuli Madonsela by making impossible demands himself. Zuma pleads for respect, knowing full well it must be earned (and has not). He parades as a victim.
Zuma delays everything, the Stalingrad Tactic, avoiding his day in court on corruption charges, the Arms Deal, the outcome of the spy tapes legal saga, and has his appeals to the ConCourt either overturned or denied. He does not obey judicial orders, and uses legal processes to delay and disrespect judicial processes. His arrogance knows no bounds.JZ ignores constitution.png
Meanwhile, the Cabal works quietly and steadily, appointing key personnel who defend them under all circumstances, and capturing institutions for the looting work of the Cabal. Zuma had captured the ANC Top Six, the NEC, the entire security cluster and the NPA before anyone even realised what was happening. Voila! Another card trick! Bravo!
Some of those appointments can be listed as follows: (now-suspended) NPA bosses Nomgcoba Jiba and Lawrence Mrwebi, suspended Police Commissioner Mangwashi Victoria Phiyega, fired former Police Commissioner Bheki Cele, fired National Director of Public Prosecutions Menzi Simelane, dismissed NDPP Mxolisi Nxasana (for being non-compliant), suspended Head of Crime Intelligence Richard Mdluli (a former apartheid security policeman), the NDPP penis-head, Shaun Abrahams, and at least four SABC Boards, Chairs, CEOs, and many other public figures, such as laughable Des van Rooyen.
The appointments constantly change. Zuma keeps incompetents in a state of fear. A funk of being fired, demoted, losing access to the pig-trough or your pension concentrates the loyalty emotion marvellously. You cross Zuma, you cross a Rubicon, a deadly booby trap.
The Cabal works ceaselessly to award corrupt tenders, and draw more people into the patronage network, much like the police usually soon involve a new member in a joint corrupt act so they can never rat on their criminal colleagues. It’s a form of initiation and an insurance policy against betrayal. Zuma has the dirt on all ANC exiles and beyond. In fact, it would not be beyond belief to imagine that Mdludi and he worked on the same side. But of course this can’t be proved (yet). Yet Zuma uses apartheid tactics well.
Fealty to one man is paramount. No 1. The Big Man. Note the patriarchal and traditional connotations here, playing on ancient power structures and deep rural Zulu beliefs. This is how he secures his power base, appealing to poor, uneducated rural folk who trust their “leader” to do the best for them, not knowing that he has already betrayed them – and SA.
So Zuma laughs openly at the public, The People, in Parliament, because he knows he has captured not only the State Machinery, but also given big chunks of public money to trusted business co-conspirators, such as the Guptas, in the guise of BBEEE and other loyal black business formations. Money and power is the powerful aphrodisiac of a new elite that Zuma knows he can appeal to. Place your business with the ANC and you will prosper, he touts publicly. We will “look after you”, he claims. Another card trick! Halala!
Finally, his Trump Card is the security forces. Run by pittbulls called Siyabonga Cwele (Telecoms), Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula Nosiviwe (Defence), David Mahlobo (State Security), Nathi Nhleko (Police), and Michael Masutha (Justice & Correctional Services), they function to enforce the threat of State Repression, the Jackboot of Jacob Zuma.
But as we know, this is just a hollowed-out State, a House of Cards. It is devoid of leadership, morality, courage, or integrity. They don’t serve South Africa, they serve the Zuma Cabal. And as the sun sets on naked Emperor Zuma’s reign, the fires of Mzansi’s rage keep the darkness at bay.
One more flicker, one more puff, and the House of Cards will fall.
